Worried by the intrigues and horse-trading characterizing the naming of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet, a socio-political group, the Buhari Friends Organisation, BFON has cautioned the President over the selection of persons to fill the positions.
National Coordinator of BFON, Mr. Athanasius Okon stated this when the group met with national stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress APC, who were on a familiarization visit of the organization in the state yesterday.
Okon said the group would not hesitate to engineer a protest if Buhari fails to appoint his cabinet based on merit and contributions to his emergence as the President of Nigeria after three failed attempts.
He noted that some groups from Akwa Ibom State and other lobbyists have been pestering the President, claiming they supported the President during the electioneering, but urged Buhari to avoid such impostors.
According to him, Nigerians have been yearning for the country’s development and better distribution of the dividends of democracy, noting that only true supporters of the Buhari cause since 2003, with proven ability in public service, should be approved in the new cabinet.
Responding, Engr. Aliyu Abdullahi, chieftain of APC and personal aide to President Buhari, appreciated the sacrifice of the BFON members to the President’s cause, assuring that the record of Buhari supporters in the State have been comprehensively documented.
“Baba will not forget anybody especially now that the time for ‘chop’ has come”. He added that the state would be one of the most favoured in South South when portfolio’s allocation matters would be addressed.
The Board of Trustees, BoT member of APC, Group Capt. Sam Ewang (Rtd), said the President would not be cowed into taking wrong decisions on the character of those to be part of his government.
The former military administrator of Ogun and Rivers State, recalled that since independence in 1960, “this is the first time Nigeria would have a leader” and impressed it on Nigerians to allow the President time to implement his policies and programmes.
He said no stone would be left unturned in the Buhari’s mission to address the prevailing ills of the country including corruption and insecurity, vowing that “anyone caught in the corruption web during the Buhari’s era, would go to jail”.
