A group, Peace Advocacy Committee, PAC, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on his approval that the Governing Councils of Federal Universities be exempted for the time being from the dissolution of Boards of Federal Government’s parastatals, agencies, institutions and government-owned companies.
The group in a press statement signed by its secretary, Barrister Adeyemi Adetise and made available to newsmen in Osogbo described the exception of Universities Governing Boards from the earlier dissolution as a step that would continue to uplift education in the country.
The nongovernmental group described President Buhari as a true democrat who has respect for rule-of-law and due process. The group recalled in one of the speeches delivered by President Buhari that his administration will always uphold the rule of law and due process, saying the President has shown to the entire world that he is a man of his words.
The group praised the president for upholding the autonomy of the universities as guaranteed by the law.
”The President has always been preaching peace, due process and respect for the rule of law in all his programmes, so, he has demonstrated it for not tampering with the law that established the autonomy of the University Boards across the country”.
The group equally threw its weight behind the fight against corruption and insurgence by the Buhari administration, adding that “with his determination to stem the trend, the desired peace and development of Nigeria is guaranteed.”
