A group, known as the Buhari Media Support Group, BMSG, has commended the effort of Ohaneze Ndigbo to condemn in totally the pro-Biafra protests by some individuals in South East and South South.
In a press statement jointly signed by the Coordinator and Secretary of the group, Muhammed Labbo and Cassidy Madueke, it maintained that re-awakening the defunct Republic of Biafra is an ill wind that will not do any good to Nigerians.
“Having watched with concern, the unnecessary and misguided outbreak of pro-Biafra protests and agitations in some parts of the South East and South South, commends the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, for coming out to condemn these protests.
“Protests and agitations in favour of secession and separatists let alone directed at re-awakening the defunct Republic of Biafra is an ill wind that will not do any good, least of all the protesters and their sponsors, whoever they may be”.
It alleged that the protesters were misguided and teleguided by selfish politicians and political jobbers who care only for their interest and little for the generality of the Igbo people.
The BMSG stated that despite the perception of marginalization and neglect by the pro-Biafran protesters, it is not enough to cause the disunity and disintegration of the Nigerian State. It further noted that these complaints are not peculiar to the South East zone alone as they are common across the country.
It further explained that the experience of the last civil war in Nigeria is not one which the present generation should revive, since that war was declared a mistake that should never have happened.
BMSG therefore called on other socio-cultural, socio-political, South-Eastern state governments and prominent Igbos to emulate Ohanaeze Ndigbo in beating the drums of peace and development.
