A pro-democracy youth forum under the aegis of Youths’ Promoter Vanguard, YPV, has further expressed hope in the survival of the nation’s nascent democracy urging federal government to be more proactive in developing youths-based policies for nation-building.
The group in a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Adebayo Otunola Awoniyi, also described the nomination of the former governor of Lagos State, Barrister Raji Fashola, SAN, by President Muhammadu Buhari and subsequent confirmation by the leadership of the National Assembly as a minister designate as a good omen for national consciousness and democratic advancement.
The youth advocacy group however stressed that Barrister Fashola would no doubt add considerable values to the administration of President Buhari due to his vast experience as a thorough advocate of democratic practice, philanthropist, public policy analyst as well as family man among other well deserving societal status.
Comrade Awoniyi also recalled Fashola’s political sojourn as the Chief of Staff to his predecessor and later as a two term governor of the economic hub of the nation with a strong agenda of repositioning the state ‎thereby setting an excellent precedence for his successor.
He however condemned allegations from some quarters that Fashola doesn’t deserve to be appointed maintaining that such claim is not only condemnable but frivolous, unwarranted and remain the antics of some anti-progressive desire of the current administration.
While congratulating the ministerial nominees, the group tasked them to be committed to the anti-corruption crusade of the APC-led government with a viewing to combating economic recession as well as terrorism even as he commended Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his leadership role in the party.
“There is no doubt that the senior lawyer is a man with wide experience who can fit in into any ministry as a core professional and politician who is always passionate about the growth and development of the wellbeing of the masses. This is indeed a great opportunity to reposition the decadence in our nation’s system of governance for a better future”, the statement reads.
