The chairman of Zamfara Central Forum, a non-governmental organization in Zamfara State, Mallam Abba Muhammed Gusau has berated Governor Abdulaziz Yari over his local government join account deductions policy for the past four years that he has been governing the state, describing Governor Yari’s deduction policy to as undemocratic and unacceptable.
Abba stated this in an interview with newsmen in Gusau, the state capital yesterday. He said he NGO was fully aware of the billions of Naira belonging the 14 local government councils being deducted by Governor Yari through the illegal join account every Month since 2012.
He accused the governor of approaching governance from a very lukewarm and autocratic perspective without caring for the wellbeing of those who elected him into office. According to him, the governor has neglected his duty as the chief security officer of the state and this explains the rampant terror inflicted on people of the state by unknown gunmen and cattle rustlers.
“You see in a democratic set up, governance is for all not for only one person, but here in our state Zamfara under the leadership of Governor Yari, we can say we are under autocratic governance ever since 2011 to date,” he said.
He tasked the governor to come out and tell the general public in the state how he managed billions of Naira from the federal statutory allocation meant for the 14 local government areas of the state from 2011 to 2015 as well as how he failed to address the issue of rampant attacks which has led to the loss of hundreds of innocent people despite millions of Naira said to have been spent by his administration in respect of curbing insecurity challenges in the state.
He stated that his Forum had every financial record of Governor Yari’s administration that, as at March 2013, the 14 local government areas in Zamfara State got over N67 billion from the Federal Allocation, accusing Governor Yari that only N20 million was given to each local government by the state government as their monthly allocation since 2012 to date.
“It is disheartening, how the governor failed to settle over 1,400 newly recruited workers their two years salaries, a situation which has caused crime rate in the state to soar,” Abba stated.
He commended the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari for his immediate response to 36 states of the federation by bailing them out to settle their workers’ salaries, describing the bailout policy as a symptom of true democratic governance. He called on the federal government to look inward on how to stop the states and local governments join account for the benefit of grassroots communities in the country.
