A Pan Yoruba group Majeobaje Movement has called on the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to give poverty alleviation priority by creating more jobs immediately he swear-in on May 29.
The Movement made the declaration on Tuesday in Ibadan while presenting it’s 14 points minimum requirement titled “Good Governance Charter 2015” before journalists in Ibadan.
It said, “Nigerians nay Yorubas had suffered greatly especially in the area of affordable accommodation due to the economic situation of the Country and therefore need to put all necessary machinery in motion to build affordable houses to boost economic recovery and to provide up to one million new homes annually.”
Also, the group advised the president-elect to provide sustainable agriculture that will be regional based, geared to the needs of industry and host communities.
Speaking through National Convener of the Movement, Chief Akintayo Akin-Deko said “We thank God and Nigerians for the generally peaceful nature of the recently concluded presidential elections, and we congratulate General Mohammadu Buhari and Pastor Yemi Osinbajo for a well-earned victory”.
“But beyond the celebrations of APC members and northern elders, is the unsung hard work of many groups that contributed to this epoch-making victory”, he added.
Akin-Deko who stated that Majeobaje Movement within the next three weeks will present the charter to the president- elect and his Vice further declared that although General Buhari had promised to eradicate corruption but the group want him to “Institutions-based war against corruption, and to monitor public office holders and political parties “ in eradicating corruption.
He stated that the entire nation had suffered greatly under the mis-governance especially of the state governors emphasised that the movement will ever support the administration of General Buhari /Osinbajo if they are able to implement the 14 point agenda.
Others members of the group that attended the conference included Hon. Ife Ajiwoye from Ondo State; Mr. Kayode Ola (State of Osun) ; Barrister Lateef Saradeen Onijo (Oyo State ); Alhaji Kayode Adegoke (State of Osun); Hon. Fijabi Adebo (Ogun State) and Mr. Gbenga Nadi among others.
The Majeobaje Movement also want General Buhari to give priority to security, true federalism , rule of law, constitutional reform , poverty alleviation (by job creation, micro enterprise schemes, welfare for vulnerable, cheap loans).
Others agenda included industries, universal healthcare, functional education, sustainable agriculture, electricity supply, housing programme and youth empowerment.
