As the people of Rivers state continue to wait anxiously on the next step by the Independent National Electotal Commission, INEC, as it relates announcement of all results in the March 19 rerun elections in the state, a youth body, Youth for Peace and Good Leadership Initiative, in collaboration with the youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, has called on the electotal body to announce all results collated at the ward levels.
Recall that INEC had issued a statement placing on hold further release and announcement of elections after results of ten constituencies were released due to claim and counter_claims from both the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP this causing anxiety within the political circles.
But addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend, Chairman of the group, Comrade Ekiye C. Ekiye particularly called on the INEC to announce all collated results, particularly in Rivers East Senatorial district.
Comrade Ekiye said the call became necessary as elections were successfully concluded in the area. Ekiye, who said the youth body sensed a foul play, also accused security operatives of aiding one of the political parties in elections malpractice, which according to him led to the violence that rocked parts of the state during the rerun elections.
“The army which are trained to maintain peace and order in society aided the politicians to intimidate and harass people during the election. We also frown at the negative publicity given by the media who covered the election”, he stated.
