A gubernatorial aspirant in Kogi State, Prince Sanni Shaibu, has said the only panacea to the state’s many problems would be a generational change of power.
Shaibu, a prince in Igala Kingdom from Ankpa in the East Senatorial District of the state made this assertion at the weekend at his country home in Ankpa while addressing his subjects who have come to pay homage and pleaded with him to play a role in the next dispensation in the state.
He said he could not come to terms with obvious policy somersaults that have given credence to leadership failure which has resulted in creating mass unemployment and other social vices in the state.
The Abuja based businessman said that despite the state’s abundant natural and human resources, successive administrations could not get it right and pull the state out of the doldrums, calling on the people of the state to join hands with him to rescue the state from its present sad condition.
While he noted that the state has come of age to make things work for its people, Prince Shaibu said it is sad to account that it remained dwarfed among comity of states, especially among those state that were created together with Kogi years back.
He added that the sorry sight of the state could be attributed to shortsightedness of past political office holders who have been operating on the pedestal of sentiments rather than exploiting the resources of the state for the benefit of the people.
Stressing that a state such as Kogi that is endowed with all sorts of mineral resources at commercial level needed a resourceful and entrepreneurial person on the saddle, he argued that is the only way to generate employment and keep the teeming youths engaged to stem restiveness in the society.
“Look at Kogi State and tell me if there is no mineral resources that you know, yet Kogi is the least of all the states of the federation”, he said.
The Prince averred that as a private entrepreneur, he has facilitated investors to other states of the federation, saying that the effort has been yielding fruits for the concerned states; even as he added that time has come for like-minds to bring their experience to bear in the affairs of the state.
He said that the only way out of the pathetic state of Kogi is for the people themselves to come to terms that it is no longer business as usual and decide for the right person now; adding that in collaboration with the like- minds, they are currently developing ‘common sense’ strategy in other to make the “people see the rot, feel the odd and go for a generational change”.
While Prince Shaibu commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the steps taken so far, especially on the issue of security, he urged him to appoint those that have vision of like minds with him so as to drive the country’s economy to meet up with comity of great nations in the world.
