Ahead of this year’s gubernatorial election in Ondo State, politicians aspiring to contest in the 2016 governorship election in the state have flooded the streets of Akure metropolis with their posters, even as political parties in the state are yet to hold their congresses.
It was also observed that some politicians who are indicating interest in partaking in the governorship poll yet to be scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have taken their campaign to radio stations in the state.
Politicians who pasted their posters include Hon. Kingsley Kuku under the platform of the Peoples Democratic, PDP, Hon. Victor Olabimtan, Mr Jamiu Ekungba and Chief Olubukola Adetula, all under the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC. Others are using the social media to indicate their interest
In an interview with our correspondent, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Banji Okunomo said that the members of the party who have shown their interests to partake in the governorship poll have the constitutional right to express their interests to contest for the election.
He pointed out that PDP as a party does not restrict its members from contesting for elective posts, including the forthcoming governorship election.
He explained that it also to show the level of consciousness as members of the party to take on the legacies of the present administration in the state.
The Publicity Secretary further said that the party is not prohibiting anyone from expressing their interests saying level playing ground will be given to every aspirant.
On his part, the State Deputy Chairman of APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin affirmed that the members of the party have the right to express their interest ahead of the election, even as the governorship election is about ten months away. Adetimehin however enjoined the aspirants in the party who are aspiring to contest to paste their posters wisely in order not to violate the electoral law.
