National Working Committee, NWC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday affirmed that the Bayelsa State delegates list to be used for the governorship primaries is intact and in its custody in Abuja.
Rising from a meeting in Abuja, the party decided to affirm the existing delegates list to be used for the primaries and also annul any suspension placed on members of the party in the state.
The APC, in a statement by its National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, also directed the party executives at all levels to maintain strict neutrality before and during the primaries.
The statement issued by the Deputy National Secretary of the party, Comrade Timi Frank, on behalf of the national chairman, maintained that rumours that the delegates’ list has been tampered with “has no foundation”.
It explained that the suspension purportedly placed on some members of the party was lifted to facilitate a conducive atmosphere for the primaries.
The statement said the NWC’s decision followed reports of threat and intimidation of members of the party in Bayelsa State in view of its governorship primaries scheduled for September 19.
It added that the decision was taken during a meeting by the national leadership of the party with the 19 aspirants on its platform in Abuja, after carefully listening to their complaint against the state executive.
The statement said Odigie-Oyegun further assured the aspirants and all members of the party in the state that the primaries will be free and fair as the national leadership has no preferred candidate.
