UNKNOWN gunmen, Saturday night,
invaded Ozochi community in Ahoada
East community of Rivers State, killing
at least eight persons.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that
gunmen suspected to be cultists, shot
sporadically, and set some houses and
shops ablaze in the area.
A source in the area, who spoke
with Nigerian Pilot stated the oldest
man in the community was among the
casualties of the attack.
However, Caretaker Committee
(CTC), Chairman of Ahoada East LGA,
Britain Okpara Ewor, and the lawmaker
representing the constituency in the
State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie,
in their separate statements, confirmed
the incident to journalists.
Ewor, who spoke through his media
aide, Monday Oyagiri, condemned the attack on members of the community,
describing the perpetrators as enemies of
the state and warned the people behind the
dastardly act to vacate the LGA, stressing
that anyone caught would be brought to
book. He further commiserated with the
affected families.
Similarly, Ehie called on security
operatives in the state to investigate the
killing and ensure that the culprits were
tracked down and punished accordingly.
The State Police Command has also
confirmed the incident to newsmen.
In another development, , unknown
gunmen on Saturday night, also kidnapped
the Paramount Ruler of Ubimini
Community, in Emohua LGA HRH Eze Edi
Matthias Igwe, Eze Ukwu Ubimini .
Nigeriam Pilot gathered that two men
dressed in Army uniform stormed his
palace and took him away to unknown
destination. As at the time of filing this
report, the Police in the state has not made
any statement concerning the incident.
