NATIONAL Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has said the anti- corruption drive of the federal government was purely a pro-national and progressive move required at this time of the country’s dwindling economic fortunes. It, therefore, called on all Nigerians irrespective of political, religious, ethnic or other sundry affiliations to support the federal government in this drive for the benefit and prosperity of the Nigerian State. The body stated this in a communique issued at the end of its 28th national convention held at the Old Parade Ground Abuja. The student body said that the cease fire declared by the Niger- Delta Avengers was highly commendable as it represent the best alternative towards achieving an economically viable, peaceful and prosperous Niger Delta and indeed Nigeria. It, therefore, called on the Niger Delta avengers not to make the current cease fire temporary affair but a lasting solution to the resumed restiveness in the region. “Federal government should set up a formidable economic team to liberate the country from the current economic quagmire and design a new face of social economic prosperity that will once again improve the living standard of students and the working class and strive to re- instate the middle class that have long been extinguished due to long standing anti- imperialist economic politics. “We call on the Fulani herdsmen to desist from the unnecessary killings of Nigerians and engage in their primary duties which when properly harnessed will lead to increase in our national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and lead to a more economically viable Nigeria. “We commend and congratulate the Feet Achieved by the dream team in the fast concluded Male Football at the 2016 Rio Olympus in Brazil. We call on Nigerians to emulate the Patriotism, Courage and determination demonstrated by the coach Sampson Siasia lead dream team. “INEC should as a matter of compulsion ensure that the gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo states are free, fair, credible and acceptable. And that efforts must be made to ensure the recent series of inconclusive elections must be jettisoned and replaced with elections whose results must be released at as when due,” the body stated. Meanwhile, Comrade Aruna Kadiri of University of Benin, UNIBEN has been elected the new NANS President. He pulled 112 votes to beat other candidates.
