Nigerian male handball team were beaten 31-23 yesterday by their Algerian counterparts in Cairo as part of the fifth day of the first round (group A) of the African Handball Cup of Nations.
It is the fourth successive victory for Algeria, qualified before this meeting for the quarter finals, after those achieved against Gabon (35-24), Morocco (27-22) and Cameroun (34-27).
Algeria was defeated in the opening match played against Egypt (22-18).
Algeria will play the quarter-finals today against, probably, Congo at 4.00 p.m.
The Algerians are the championship’s defending champions where the winners will automatically qualify for next summer’s Olympic Games 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
