The hideout of the notorious criminal
gang leader in Benue State popularly
known as Gana who allegedly killed
an army lance corporal of 72 Special
battalion and a police sergeant attached
to 13 Mopol Unit was yesterday reduced
to rubbles by men of the Nigerian Armed
It would be recalled that the military
authorities had vowed to track down the
armed gang which has been operating
along Zaki-Biam/Katsina-Ala road.
The gang had also attacked the troops
on patrol on their way to respond to
distress calls from civilians in the town
last Tuesday.
Gana’s camp, according to a source
is located within Gbishe settlement
area, which is about kilometer 40 along
Katsina-Ala-Takum road, in Katsina Ala.
The source also confirmed that
‘Gana’ was the killer of the officers in an
ambush in the early hours of the fateful
day at Alibiam village in Ukum local
government area of the state.
Although Gana and his boys,
according to the source had escaped
before the arrival of the military team,
his wife was however, unlucky as she
was apprehended.
Benue State Police command
spokesman, ASP Austin Ezeani also
confirmed that the military were on
the trail of Gana and promised to give
further information after obtaining full
details from the Divisional Police Officer
DPO, in Katsina Ala.
Since the latest killing, Zaki-Biam has
witnessed heavy presence of military
men, but they did not hurt anybody
unlike 2001 when several lives were lost
and properties worth millions of naira
were destroyed.
