THE PRESIDENTIAL
Committee on Flood and
Rehabilitation has disclosed
that it will construct two
hostels in Makurdi, Benue
State capital to accommodate
flood victims in the advent of
any flood disaster.
Chairman of the committee,
Mr John Owoicho who
disclosed this when he paid a
courtesy call on the governor
of the state, Dr Gabriel Suswam
yesterday, said the hostels will
go a long way in alleviating
the problems of victims while
efforts are taken to provide
solution to their problem.
While he said the committee
will support to fund the project
to logical conclusion, Owoicho
thanked the governor for
the hospitality accorded the
committee and other officials
who had visited the state in the
past to find solution to flood
issues in the state.
He said efforts were on
top gear to find permanent
solution to prevent flooding
in the state and the country in
general.
Responding, Suswam who
was represented by his Deputy,
Chief Steven Lawani described
the effort of the committee
as a welcome development
and promised that the state
government will accord it the
necessary support to make it
succeed.
Suswam expressed gratitude
to the federal government for
finding it expedient to plan
to control flooding, stressing
that in 2012, the flooding of the
major road linking Makurdi
and Gboko caused undue
problem for residents in the
state.
