A house help, Miss Igweze Ekwutosi Okamuigbo got a baptism of ground pepper mixed with hot water by a housewife, Mrs. Ogochukwu Okamuigbo, which caused her severe burns in her private part.
Trouble started for Miss Okamuigbo when she forgot her school bag at school but lied that it was seized by her class teacher.
The house help, aged 13, lives with the family at No. 12 Ukonu Street, Nkutaku, East Niger Layout, Onitsha.
As Ekwutosi was crying and wailing in pain, sympathisers rushed in and asked the woman the reason for the injury meted out to the girl but not satisfied by her defense, they invited the police.
In her defence, Ogochukwu said that the maid instead of admitting that she could not return with her school bag for reason best known to her, accused her teacher of seizing it and that she was always stealing her N50.
Earlier, the maid, a cousin to the woman’s husband, revealed that her madam was in the habit of beating her always.
She said further: “This morning she used ground pepper with hot water on me which caused burns on my private part.”
Condemning the act at the Fegge Police Station, Onitsha, chairman of Campaign for Democracy, CD, Comrade Vincent Ezemekwe, flanked by his two executive members, Onah Zachaeus and Ben Igweze, described it as wickedness, adding that the woman must be made to face the wrath of the law.
