Majority Leader of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Honourable Daniel Dem, yesterday narrated how armed men suspected to be robbers abducted him at his residence in Bukuru area of Jos South local government of the state, and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Narrating the incident to Newsmen in Jos, Dem said four armed robbery suspects took him to the bush where he was severely tortured and dispossessed of his belongings, including his official car, a Toyota Avensis, before releasing him.
Dem, who is a member representing Riyom Constituency described his escape as a miracle, said that the incident happened around 7:30pm last Friday while he was driving home from work.
He said: “As the security man in the compound opened the gate, the robbers who had laid ambush at a nearby street, drove behind me into the compound, immediately, four men brandishing guns ordered me into their vehicle and drove off alongside my own vehicle.”
According to him, while three of the robbers carried him to a bush, the one who drove his official car headed towards Jos- Abuja highway.
However, luck ran out on the robbers when the Police commissioner in the state alerted security agents on the road, with assistance also coming from members of the community, who mobilised themselves, a development which forced the fleeing robbers to abandon the car in Hawan Kibo village and fled.
The lawmaker thanked the security agents and members of the community for coming to his rescue even as security has been beefed up in the community following the incident.
