Former military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida has said that he was not the evil genius people considered him to be.
IBB rejected this age-long negative insinuation about his person in a media interraction to mark his 75th birthday at his Hilltop mansion in Minna, Niger State capital.
He noted that he had had a very humble background, and as a military officer, he was trained to love his fellow human beings.
“I am not the evil that quite a lot of people consider that I am. I have had a very excellent background and by training, we have to love one another, however, I can understand the feeling. But by virtue of the job I was doing, I was bound to be misconstrued and people will take it like that, but I consider it as an opinion as long as I am not what you think I was, I feel satisfied.”
Meanwhile, Niger State governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has described the former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida who marks his 75th birthday today as an indispensable leader and adviser.
The governor in a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace said that the former leader has continued to remain relevant in the Nigerian Project.
“Former Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has remained a good man, a father, a role model and a pride to Nigerlites in particular and Nigerians in general.
“The role he has been playing towards the consistent growth and development of this country in general and Niger State in particular are unquantifiable. His dogged commitment to the corporate existence of Nigeria as one indivisible country has been unique and unparalleled.
Also, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar said former military President Ibrahim Babangida at 75 deserves accolades for his contributions to the development of the nation.
This is contained in a statement signed by his Head of Media, Mr. Paul Ibe, in Abuja on Monday.
According to him, one of the greatest legacies of IBB is giving the country a manageable number of political parties by reducing them to two.
This, he said, reduced waste of resources through financial support from the country’s electoral commission.
Atiku noted that following the conception of the Federal Capital Territory by Gen. Murtala Mohammed, the late Head of State, Babangida facilitated the rapid development of the city.
