As concerns over somewhat renewed terrorism attacks in North-East Nigeria especially Borno state increase, the federal government has insisted that the current administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari is winning the battle against insurgency with the aid of Information and Communication Technology, ICT.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Engr Babachir David Lawal who dropped the hint in his office in Abuja after signing a memoranda of Understanding between Nigeria and Huawei technology company, China maintained that Buhari-led government would continue to deploy the use of ICT in combating terrorism and militancy-related activities in the country.
Engr Lawal explained that the use of ICT by the present administration has equally ensured that effort to stamp out corruption has gained momentum.
According to the SGF whose signature on behalf of the Nigerian government with Huawei outfit guaranteed a training programme for young Federal government ICT professionals; “ICT has helped the current administration led by Present Muhammadu Buhari to expose government saboteurs.
“Again, the government is keen to use ICT as a major employment enabler which is recognized all over the world.
“Government is also supporting ICT to generate wealth and create employment for viable economic diversification. And so, we are partnering Huawei as one of the major players of the ICT industry to expand the knowledge of our young ICT professionals.”
In their separate speeches, head of Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Qian Joan and Managing Director of Huawei, Li Tieng said the training programme as part of their corporate social responsibility would be of immense benefit to Nigerians as well promote greater understanding in digital information.
Huawei established in 1987 in faraway China, made its debut in Nigeria in the year 1999.
