Brown Ideye secured the winning goal for West Brom as they coasted to a 2-1 win over Charleston Battery in a pre-season friendly early Saturday morning.
The Baggies started out as the brighter side of the two teams and they almost took the lead in Saturday’s friendly at the Blackbaud Stadium when Craig Dawson headed narrowly over from close range.
After several misses from both sides, there was relief for West Brom in the 42nd minute when Saido Berahino broke the deadlock after combining well with Victor Anichebe before slotting his effort inside the right post.
Charleston Battery restored parity in the 57th minute when Jamaican Navion Boyd lashed in a shot from the edge of the area for the United Soccer League side.
However, the visitors secured victory in South Carolina when Ideye headed home from Craig Gardner’s cross and the Nigerian was understandably pleased with his contributions.
“Great win tonight against @ Chas_Battery good team, hard work continues.” Ideye wrote on his twitter handle after the game.
West Brom will be starting their Premier League campaign next month against Manchester City.
