A group under the umbrella of Idoma Youth Forum, IYF, has decried constant media attacks on the former Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, saying, his selfless service to the nation would surely vindicate him.
In a statement jointly signed by its President and Secretary General, Messrs Paul Audu and Ocheme Agada respectively and made available to Nigerian Pilot in Makurdi, Benue State capital at the weekend, the group described Moro as a detribalised Nigerian who had worked selflessly for the development of this country and did not deserve to be vilified.
The forum regretted the unfortunate incident of the 2014 recruitment exercise conducted by Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, where some applicants lost their lives and noted that the decision of the former minister to resort to open recruitment was to curb the scam that had bedeviled recruitment exercises in Nigeria.
IYF said Moro was not afraid of facing justice, stressing that he would give account of what happened when called upon to do so.
While emphasising that such investigation must be devoid of witch hunting, the group urged the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to be transparent in all matters concerning the tragedy that befell NIS during the tenure of Comrade Moro.
The group exonerated the former minister from involvement in the problems that led to the suspension of NIS comptroller general, David Parradang, and his allies.
The organisation observed that the problem that led to the suspension of the NIS boss was self inflicted because he ignored the warning given to him by the ministry’s permanent secretary.
Further emphasising, the group said, “even as Moro did not take the recruitment decision alone, he accepted responsibility for the unfortunate incident as a worthy leader.”
On the issue of promotions, the body said they were carried out according to the approval made by the board which Parradang was a member, adding that the allegation of undue favour or highest bidder did not arise as those that were promoted got it on merit.
