Nasarawa United midfielder Esosa Igbinoba has shot to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Rasheed Yekini golden boot award chart after his lone strike against Enugu Rangers ensured he displaced his competitors with his 14thgoal of the season.
Igbinoba has been in impressive form this season especially since the start of the second stanza and his fifth goal in the last five matches ensured he overtook Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji whom he tied with two weeks ago after his two goals in Akure in their 3-2 away win against the Owena Waves.
The former Lobi Stars man rose up to the occasion on Sunday when he saved the blush of the Kabiru Suleiman Dogo led Nasarawa United with the crucial goal that delivered them three points against the Flying Antelopes in Lafia.
He is closely followed by Adeniji who has 13 goals and Bright Ejike who has scored 12 goals in the colours of Heartland this season.
Tony Okpotu (Lobi Stars), Gbolahan Salami (Warri Wolves), Mubarak Umar (Wikki Tourists) are some of the other players that are battling to wrestle the award. They have scored 10 goals each this season.
Igbinoba has said that he would continue to strive to do his best to score more goals before the end of the season but that his main target is to guide Nasarawa United to the continent despite their present position on the log.
“I am delighted with my form. I like scoring goals especially at set pieces and scoring up to 14 goals already this season has made me quite happy with my form. I will be glad to get more to help my club to qualify for the continent and also for me to emerge as the highest goals scorer at the end of the season,” Igbinoba told Goal.
Igbinoba’s goals have taken the Solid Miners to sixth on the log with 46 points from 30 matches.
