Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, has called on the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, to shun crime and vices within and outside the student community, even as he encouraged them to maintain a good communication link with commissioners of police of various commands across the country.
The IGP also urged the association to always embrace dialogue and use communication as an imperative ingredient to resolve conflict.
The police chief gave the advice at the Force headquarters, yesterday, when he received in audience the newly elected NANS executive led by its President-elect, Comrade Haruna Kadir.
According to a statement by the Force PRO, DCP Don Awunah, Idris lauded the good conduct and democratic values displayed during their last national convention held in Abuja and expressed appreciation to the union’s president and his executive for finding time to visit him.
He assured them of the determination of the Nigeria Police Force to cooperate with them, especially in the prevention and reduction of violent crimes and other vices within the student community.
Earlier, the NANS president called for increased students and police partnership, even as he appreciated the Nigeria Police Force for the elaborate security coverage provided for them during their recent national convention.
He lauded the IGP’s stance on zero tolerance to corruption and his commitment at ensuring assets declaration by officers and men of the Force.
He said since he assumed office, NANS has been monitoring closely his security trips to various parts of the country such as the Niger-Delta region, North–East, and of recent Lagos State.
“This has yielded positive results with crime reduction throughout the country and pledged more support and close partnership with the Nigeria Police Force.”
