Inspector–General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase has instructed police officers in the country to partner monarchs in their areas of jurisdiction for maximum results.
Arase said it became imperative to enable the police to curtail the rate of crime to the barest minimum.
The police boss gave the directive yesterday at the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Oharisi III.
Arase, who was represented by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Alkali, said the police would partner with traditional rulers through town hall meetings towards ensuring that crime was curtailed in the state.
Mr. Alkali, accompanied by the AIG in charge of Zone 5, Mr. Musa Daura, said: “The AIG has already visited Bayelsa before coming to Delta.
“The reason why Ughelli was chosen for this town hall meeting is due to its strategic importance in Delta State, which cannot be overemphasised.”
Earlier, the Ovie in company of chiefs of the kingdom made a case for the establishment of an extra police post in Ughelli to assist the two police stations in the area in curbing the upsurge of crime in the area.
