Kelechi Iheanacho remains confident Manchester City can claw back Leicester City’s lead at the top of the table after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Etihad Stadium.
The hosts fell behind to Harry Kane’s 54th-minute strike but soon pulled things level as Iheanacho fired home 20 minutes later.
City pushed for the winner but had their wings clipped as Christian Eriksen’s 83rd handed the Citizens their seventh defeat of the season – as Iheanacho rued a missed chance to close the gap on Claudio Ranieri’s men – but believes the title race is far from over.
“I think we tried very hard but unfortunately lost the game, and we are very disappointed. We will put that behind us and keep going,” Iheanacho told club website.
“I thought the goal I scored would motivate my team towards getting another goal and win the game, but unfortunately it didn’t happen and we lost the game.
“I’m pleased to score my third goal in the English Premier League but we are disappointed we lost.
“No one is happy because we gave enough gave for the people in front but I think if we work hard and concentrate on every game, I think we would close the gaps,” he concluded.
