- Nigerian star says Malaga can count on him
Malaga’s Francesc Arnau has given his backing to Ikechukwu Uche following his move to the team, insisting the Nigerian needs time to be successful.
Uche joined the Andalusian side on loan from Mexico’s Tigres UANL where injuries tainted his playing chances.
Speaking during the player’s unveiling at La Rosaleda’s pressroom on Tuesday afternoon, the sports director of the La Liga outfit affirmed that the forward’s quality is unquestionable claiming the former Super Eagles’ player will be given time to be at his best.
“Nobody could argue the quality of Uche, we’ll give him time and enjoy what he does. He passed his medical perfectly and is ready to play,” said Arnau.
Meanwhile, Uche has been handed shirt number 8 vacated by Portuguese midfielder Fábio Espinho.
Nigeria international Ikechukwu Uche is delighted to complete his transfer to Malaga on deadline day and spoke of his pride after he was contacted by the club to assist in their push for a Europa League spot.
The striker underwent a series of tests on Tuesday morning to determine his level of fitness and the good news is that his injury worries are behind him.
Speaking to reporters during his unveiling, Uche said : “I feel proud and happy to be here. I’m eager to get to work and show what I can do in order to help the team.
“I’ll work hard every day to support the team to win games, will always be available for the coach to count on me, and support the team.
“I will do my best to work hard to benefit the team, helping by scoring goals would be better, so I’ll train hard for that to happen.”
For the remainder of this season, Uche who is on loan from Tigres (Mexico), will sport the number eight jersey.
Uche had featured for Spanish sides Racing de Ferrol, Recreativo de Huelva, Getafe, Real Zaragoza, Villarreal and Granada where he score 103 goals in 353 appearances.
