Newly appointed Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Mohammed has promised to build on the successes recorded by his predecessor, Dr. Ade Abolurin.
Mohammed applauded Abolurin for his laudable projects and indelible record of achievements, assuring him (Abolurin) of continuity in order to consolidate on the existing structure, even as he promised to take staff welfare as one of his cardinal priorities.
In a statement by the corps’ spokesman, DCC Emmanuel Okeh, the new CG eulogised Abolurin on his fatherly role towards personnel and named him “father of Civil Defence in Nigeria,” pledging that Abolurin remained his mentor.
Dr. Abolurin, who hailed the appointment of Mohammed, thanked President Mohammadu Buhari for appointing an insider to keep the flag flying and to ensure continuity in the system.
Abolurin conducted his successor round the corps’ headquarters as well as prayed for him both in the chapel and mosque, urging his successor to build upon the existing structure taking into cognisance the mission and vision statements of the corps, which centred on humility, integrity, credibility and zero tolerance for corruption.
He also called on the personnel to give his successor maximum cooperation in order to succeed as he bows out after successfully serving the government and the corps meritoriously.
Abolurin appreciated Mr. President for giving him the opportunity to serve and to demonstrate the capability of the corps in discharging its mandate in order to justify its creation.
