Newly appointed Acting Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Amina Zakari, yesterday said she would work on areas where the commission erred or failed under former chairman, Attahiru Jega.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony at the INEC headquarters, Zakari said the commission under her would continue working towards the improvement of the country’s electoral process.
Zakari said the commission would build on its success under Jega, adding that new methods would be discussed to move the commission forward.
She said: “I accept this with humility and an added dedication to serve. We hope to see the continued improvement of the electoral processes in the country.”
Zakari prayed for God’s guidance to head the commission, adding that she wouldn’t rest until the electoral body delivers on its promises
Ahmed Wali, who was handed the reins of the commission before Zakari’s appointment, assured the new chairman of his loyalty and support to the commission.
He said: “If you succeed, we all succeed; if you fail, we all fail.”
Former INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, Tuesday, handed over the reins of the commission to Ahmed Wali before Zakari was later appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
