Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has vowed to recover funds looted from the state.
Governor Bello stated this in Lokoja at the weekend while addressing youths from the 21 local government areas of the state, as part of activities to mark his 100 days in office.
Bello further hinted that there was no going back by his administration to ensure that the stolen funds which ought to have been used to better the lot of the people were recovered without any hindrance.
“The staff verification exercise had really uncovered fraudulent activities of some civil servants. This government will definitely recover these looted funds and it shall be channelled towards provision of basic social amenities to the people, especially those at the grassroots,” he said.
The governor, who said no society could progress without the core values of character and integrity, stressed that ethnicity and religious sentiment would not be condoned by the present administration in the state.
He added that his efforts to put an end to corruption in all sectors of the state had started yielding the desired results, revealing that the task force on forestry which was recently put in place had started recovering money from the various checkpoints designated for revenue collection.
According to the governor, N13 million has been realised from a checkpoint in April, and this he said was against the previous practice where revenue accrued to the state would be shared among godfathers, fake consultants and some corrupt civil servants, rather than depositing the money realised in state treasury.
The governor said he would not force any project on communities in the state, noting that projects would be cited based on the need of the area.
He therefore called on the youths to always consider Kogi State first in whatever they do to enable them have the state of their dream.
Earlier, the special adviser to the governor on Youth Empowerment and Sport, Comrade Aromeh Adoji said the state had a youth population of over 1.8 million, so there was need for government to accord the population the desired attention in the interest of peace and security of the state.
He informed that the state government had entered into an agreement with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and other viable organisations towards enhancing youth and women empowerment in the state.
