Former secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ekiti State, Mr. Gboyega Akinola, has condemned the moves by All Progressives Congress , APC lawmakers in the state to impeach Governor Ayò Fayose , describing it as “anti-people.”
He also said that Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, was wrong in its comparison of the issues in Ekiti and Ondo states, saying the organisation “ got its facts wrong or is mischievous in its assessment.”
The PDP chieftain said, it was “gratifying that the Supreme Court has affirmed that Governor Ayo Fayose was never impeached and therefore that couldn’t have been a reason to stop him from contesting for a political office,” and stated that “it is antithetical for ex-Speaker Adewale Omirin and his team of APC lawmakers to be bent on impeaching Governor Fayose just for political party reasons and nothing more.”
He said, “the public should know that Omirin’s actions are tantamount to contempt of court because they had already sued the Speaker, Mr. Dele Olugbemi over their ouster in November.”
On the statement credited to the director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in which he was quoted to have said that President Goodluck Jonathan should “provide an enabling environment to Ekiti lawmakers,” Akinola said “the scenarios in Ondo and Ekiti states are entirely different.”
He said: “It is unfortunate and mischievous for Ishaq Akintola to accuse President Jonathan, and wrongly too, on the Ekiti issue. The impeached deputy governor of Ondo State committed sins against the people of his state and they said they don’t want him. In Ekiti, the people say they want Fayose and all sectors of Ekiti State are against the plan to impeach him.”
