It was not a good day for the former governor of Niger state, Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu, or the outgone Adamawa deputy governor, Hon. Saad M.C Tahir who represented his boss, Governor Bala James Ngillari and even the new governor of Kaduna state, El- Rufai as their inauguration went sour with youths in their different state pelting them with satchets water, stones and other objects at the various pavilions.
At the inauguration of Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State the exercise ended abruptly yesterday as the new governor could not review the parade mounted by the police as some youths pelted dignitaries with water sachets, stones and other objects in the pavilion.
This prompted security agents to fire tear gas into the crowd at the Murtala Square, Kaduna.
It was gathered that some dignitaries in the pavilion included the Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris, and other traditional rulers in the State.
The incident occurred when the new governor had concluded his address and was about to mount an open van to review the parade mounted by the police.
While the crowds were dispersed by the police, dignitaries remained seated, but the occasion ended abruptly without the governor reviewing the parade.
……Stoning, booing, as former gov Aliyu bows out in Niger
It was definitely not a pleasant day for former governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu as he took his exit from government house in Minna yesterday.
Shout of ‘Barawo’, thief, ‘ole’ rented the air when the outgoing Niger state governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu mounted the podium to greet the crowd who were present at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna on Friday at about 10:15am.
Disappointed by the level of debt he incurred for the incoming government to inherit, and the non performance coupled with unfulfilled promises, Nigerlites screamed ‘Change has come’, ‘your time is past, go’.
Despite the huge number of security men present, the aggrieved crowd kept booing Aliyu saying ‘barawo’ (Thief) and hailing the new governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello saying ‘Sai Lolo’.
At a time, stones, shoes and missiles started flying in the air towards Aliyu prompting his security operatives to mount human wall of defence in order to prevent the missiles from reaching him.
However, because the crowd remained uncontrollable, the Police had to use tear-gas to disperse the people as he was guided away from the scene.
…Adamawa former deputy gov manhandled
Security operatives in Adamawa yesterday had a hectic day trying to protect the outgoing Adamawa state’s deputy governor, Hon. Saad M.C Tahir who represented outgoing governor, Bala James Ngillari as he was pelted with sachet water and stones shortly after delivering his speech.
Also not left out in the rough handling was the representative of Senate President at the occasion, Senator Bello Tukur Sarkin yakin Adamawa who was similarly dehumanised.
Signs that all was not well started emerging as the crowd intermittently heckled and booed the outgoing deputy governor throughout his speech and was immediately accosted by angry crowd immediately he alighted from the podium.
They accosted him shouting “ Bama so, Karya ne, mashi Gudu su Gudu, lokacinku ya yi, where is Bala Ngilari” in Hausa meaning “we don’t want liars, your ill administration was over, go away where is Governor Bala Nggilari tife Barawo”?
It took the intervention of party chieftains to calm down the situation as security operatives attached to the outgoing deputy governor use the occasion to whisk him away to safety.
