Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday rescinded its decision to present witnesses earlier earmarked for its defence at the Nasarawa state governorship elections petition tribunal sitting in Lafia, the state capital.
Mr. Labaran Maku is challenging the declaration of APC governorship candidate in the April 11th governorship election, Umaru Tanko Almakura as winner, by the electoral umpire.
Counsel to INEC, Hassan Liman, SAN, tendered exhibits before the tribunal, forms EC8D and EC8E, containing the summary of governorship election results and final results.
Liman, who tendered the documents which also contained election materials from six out of the 13 local government areas of the state, applied to close his defence and was subsequently granted as all counsels involved in the matter did not oppose the application.
Meanwhile, attempt by counsel to the petitioner, Tunde Onamosi, to apply for re-opening of the case from the bar was rejected by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Mohammed and all the respondents comprising INEC, Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura and the All Progressives Congress APC.
After consensual agreement between the legal teams of the petitioner and respondents, the tribunal chairman set the 9th, September, 2015, for the adoption of final addresses.
