The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, on Thursday issued Certificate of Return to Mr Uche Ogah as the Governor of Abia State.
INEC’s Director of Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzi, says this follows an order by the Abuja Federal High Court mandating INEC to immediately issue Certificate of Return to Mr. Uche Ogah who came second at the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries in Abia State.
It will be recalled that an Abuja court on Monday asked INEC to cede the Certificate of Return issued to Mr Okezie Ikpeazu, to his opponent during party primaries.
On hearing this development, Okezie Ikpeazu called on Abians to disregard claims of his removal from office as governor making the rounds.
Ikpeazu urged the residents to continue their normal business activities, saying there was no legal backing for such claims to manifest.
However, Justice Okon Abang, In his ruling on Monday, said that on the account of fake tax returns during the primaries, Dr. Ikpeazu was not qualified to run in the PDP primaries as a governorship candidate.
Hence, ordered the Chief Judge of the state to swear in Uche Ogah as the substantive Governor of Abia State.
According to Osaze-Uzzi, the electoral umpire issued certificate of return to Ogah after Ikpeazu failed to send notice of appeal against the ruling of a Federal High Court on Monday.
