Leadership of pro-Biafra group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has applauded the people of United Kingdom for the peaceful and successful referendum held in June 24 for their exit from the European Union tagged BREXIT.
IPOD in a statement signed by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, said that by conducting a hitch-free referendum, it showed that the Britons knew their right.
“This proves that the people know the right things to do at the right time,” the release stated.
“We also congratulate the 29 members of European Union for accepting the wish of the people of Britain to opt out from the union without any single attack on the people and government.
“Behind this, we the IPOB worldwide under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are calling on the people of Britain to pressurise their government to ask the Nigeria government and Buhari to conduct the same referendum in Nigeria, to pave way for the people of Biafra to leave without further bloodshed; and it is a crystal clear that the people know the importance of living without another deciding somebody’s future.
“The people of Biafra want to exercise their right through plebiscite to show the world how determined and resolute we are towards the restoration of the nation of Biafra.
“We want to remind the people of Britain that the merging of different people in Nigeria by the force of colonial masters to create new country caused the intractable problems of instability of indigenous people resulting in ethnic violence and incessant bloodshed, as the people find themselves incompatible in their lifestyles, customs, traditions, cultures and philosophies.
“More so, the indigenous people of Biafra were forced into the citizenship of the new country called Nigeria by the colonial masters whether we like it or not, without minding the level of bloodsheds going on against the people of eastern Nigeria; and it is high time the world bodies would rise and stop the barbaric acts going on now against the people of Biafra,” the group posited.
The group frowned at the amalgamation of 1914, saying that it had brought several troubles like religious violence and ethnic bigotry in Nigeria.
“At this moment, the Scots and Irish are seeking to exercise their right to self-determination and to establish Scotland and Northern Ireland, even the Catalonians from Spain are also asking for their own separate and independent nations; no security agents arrest, torture, kill and maim them because they are seeking for their freedom in the same way the indigenous people of Biafra are seeking to exercise their right to self-determination and to re-establish the ancient nation of Biafra as a sovereign and independent country from Nigeria,” the release maintained.
