PRO-BIAFRA group, Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the federal government of trying to kill its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. A statement signed by its spokesmen, Barrister Emma Mmezu, and Dr. Clifford Iroanya respectively, accused the government of being the brain behind the cannister of a poisonous gas thrown into his Kuje Prison cell with the intent to suffocate him. The group posited that if the sickness Kanu is suffering from persists, they may not take it lightly with the government. The statement reads: “IPOB worldwide has condemned the incessant harassment and security threat towards our leader who has been in detention since October 14, 2015 at Kuje prison and the harassment of members, friends and relatives who went to visit him. They devised a way of arresting anybody who goes to visit him. “The prison authorities and warders shot poisonous gas into Kanu’s cell room to suffocate him, and we ask who brought the poisonous gas into the prison and who brought in the specially made canisters that was fired at his window to suffocate him? “Canisters of poisonous gas with bullet shell has been shown to British officials that went to visit our leader at Kuje prison, following the failed assassination attempt. We have in our possession incontrovertible evidence which has now been sent to America for exhaustive analysis of the toxic chemical content. “The federal government cannot tell the world where Kanu and his members committed crimes, but they are still holding him and others in security cells throughout the country.” Convinced that there is a calculated attempt on his life, IPOB has warned that they will not take it lying low if he continues to suffer as a result of the poisonous gas. “We have warned before and will continue to warn that the world should pray that nothing happens to our leader because if his present illness gets worse IPOB worldwide will not take it easy with the Nigerian government. “We warned President Muhammadu Buhari that kidnapping our leader was a bad idea, but he failed to listen, because of the arrest of Kanu Nigeria is collapsing before the eyes of everybody today. We want to remind the world that anyday a serious illness is reported regarding our leader, things will no longer be the same. “Those pushing Buhari must consider the consequences of their actions because he is not an ordinary person that you can harm and get away with it. He represents the interest of millions of Biafrans worldwide and the mind of Chukwu Okike Abiama (God Almighty). We are also asking the federal government to release our leader unconditionally because he committed no crime against humanity or any government,” the organisation maintained.
