Live isn’t worth living unless it is lived in the service of humanity—Albert Einstein
It appears David Sabo Kente, the Taraba State born politician, is a good student of Albert Einstein. A study of what he stands for in life in terms of his humanitarian gestures, revealed a life of living for others, especially, the down trodden and the needy in the society.
As a qualified Accountant, he worked from the state to federal level in Accounting departments and units, in the process, exposing himself to government accounting processes and procedures. This surely puts him in good stead to understand the relationship between State and Federal government in terms of finance management.
As a result of his burning desire to serve the people, he joined politics but, the undemocratic practices and injustice forced him out of the PDP platform on which he wanted to realize his dream. He joined the SDP after dumping PDP to realize his ambition of governing the State. The anti-democratic forces in Taraba State made sure Kente’s effort was thwarted in the governorship election. Though, he came third in that election, what transpired is now history. Reports have it that David Kente has since teamed up with progressives to right the wrong in the state.
David Kente is living a life of selfless service to humanity. His carefully structured Foundation has touched many lives in Nigeria and Taraba State in particular. The most remarkable aspect of it is its components which are: Education, Health, Youths and Women Empowerment as well as Infrastructure. The foundation provides scholarship and bursary awards to Kente Youths, Jukun youths in Wukari LGA. About 350 students of tertiary institutions learning across the 16 local government areas across the state benefited from the foundation’s scholarship awards. The foundation bankrolled the WAEC, SSCE as well as NABTEB examination fees of less privileged secondary students. Some special students from Donga were sponsored in national mathematical centre in Abuja.
In health, David Kente’s foundation has sponsored more than 50 persons on medical treatment in Abuja and India for cases of heart operation and related ailments. The sick and physically challenged persons have benefited from the foundation’s magnanimity. One Andrew Abah who was referred from Benue to Yashoda Specialist Hospital in Hyberabab, India for Cardiac Resynchronization, got N2million. In the area of youth and women development, about 50 motorcycles were distributed to different youth groups in Wukari. NKST Church women in Gassol LGA benefited to the sum of N1 million from Kente’s generosity. More than 50 vehicles had been given to youths across the 16 LGAs of the state. With respect to infrastructural development, he has built Churches and Mosques across the state. Boreholes have been drilled to provide potable water to the people in the state. The foundation built a model Islamic primary in Karim Lamido. Many Muslims and Christians were sponsored to Mecca and Jerusalem respectively. Donation of relief materials worth N2million to victims of flood disaster was done across the affected areas. The list of David Kente’s philanthropic activities is endless.
Clearly, David Sabo Kente has written his name on the sands of history in Taraba State with his unparalleled humanitarian gestures. It is only a matter of time before his dream of serving the people of Taraba State as governor, comes true. With President Mohammadu Buhari’s fervent search for men and women of selfless disposition to complement him in government, people like David Kente, could be useful if called upon.
