Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has been conferred with Itsekiri Awards for Excellence, TIAFE, 2015.
The award was presented to Governor Uduaghan during the command performance of ‘Olu Akengbuwa’ produced and directed by Alex Eyengho as part of activities to mark the twenty-eight years coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11.
‘Olu Akengbuwa’ was part of the Warri Monarchs’ Stage Series and it was performed at the weekend in Warri, Delta State.
Uduaghan, who congratulated the Olu of Warri on his twenty-eight coronation anniversary, commended the organisers of the award ceremony, noting that such award would spur people to do more for the society.
“I thank you, Alex for this award, let me congratulate those who have been honoured and I want to encourage those who won awards to do more for the Itsekiri Nation, Delta State and Nigeria,” he stated.
The governor, who watched the command performance earlier staged by Nigerian artistes from different parts of the country, observed that Olu Akengbuwa “exposes the intrigues, the ambition and treachery of individuals. A lot of lessons are there for us to learn; it talked about the past, exposes the present and tells us to be careful of the future.”
He disclosed that the drama – Olu Akengbuwa would be presented in the State capital, Asaba as part of the one week handover ceremonies ushering in the next administration in the state, stressing that the drama was worth watching a second time.
Dr Uduaghan commended the creative ability of Alex Eyengho, saying: “We are proud of you and are very happy of what you are doing, let me assure you of my support in and out of office.”
The chairman of the organizing committee of the anniversary, Dr Emmanuel Tetsola said the performance of ‘Olu Akengbuwa’ was a novel to the activities of the annual coronation anniversary of the Warri monarch.
“We want to thank God for this particular event, the stage performance of ‘Olu Akingbuwa’. Before now, it has been lectures and lectures, may God Almighty be glorified, Iwere Kingdom will be uplifted,” Dr Tetsola said.
Mr. Eyengho stated that “the Warri Monarchs’ Stage Series was positioned to be the high point of the celebration of the anniversary of the reigning Olu of Warri in terms of informing, educating and entertaining guests.”
