The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Worldwide has condemned the lackadaisical attitude of President Jonathan’s media team to issues affecting the reputation of President Jonathan and its administration.
A statement issued by IYC spokesman Comrade Eric Omare to Nigerian Pilot noted that, “it is sad and disgusting that it took the Honourable Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who is in possession of all relevant information with respect to the state of the Nigeria’s debts more than five days to respond to Professor Osinbajo’s allegation that Jonathan is leaving behind $63 billion debts when most Nigerians had gone home with the wrong impression that what Professor Osinbajo said was the true position.
“The case of the President Jonathan’s political party (the PDP) is even worse as it took it up to a week to respond to an allegation that ordinarily ought to be responded to instantaneously.
“As Niger Delta people and minorities in Nigeria, we are worried with this turn of events because we have observed a deliberate effort to discredit all the achievements of President Jonathan while he was in office to create the impression that when a Niger-Deltan and minority had the opportunity of ruling Nigeria, his administration was the worst in the history of Nigeria.
“Already former President Obasanjo and General Danjuma relying on the misleading information by Prof. Osinbajo are already describing the Jonathan’s administration in that light.”
Stressing further, IYC recalled that part of the problem President Jonathan had in the March 28, 2015 presidential election was the inability of his media team to sell his achievements to Nigerians in time and allowed the opposition to paint the administration in a very bad light before the Nigeria public.
The IYC, therefore called on the media managers of President Jonathan to strive to protect his achievements in office for the sake of generations of Niger-Deltans and minorities who may aspire to the highest office in Nigeria in the future.
“President Jonathan as the first minority democratically elected President recorded landmarks achievements in different sectors which must be protected for prosperity’s sake,” IYC said.
