High rate of official corruption in the Edo State government under the seven and a half years reign of Governor Adams Oshiomhole has been described as unbelievable.
The PDP candidate in the governorship election in state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu gave this indication while addressing newsmen at Ogbona in Etsako Central Local Government Area of the state yesterday.
He said, “In Edo State today, the cost of projects is not known. The corruption in Edo State is unbelievable. I challenge the governor to publish the cost of every project he claims he has executed since he took office as governor.
“Even the university in his village, he built a 168-room hostel at a cost of N1.8billion which means to build a room in the hostel costs N10million.
“How can you build a three-classroom block for N87million? The Imaguero College which is not a new school, they changed the roof, put tiles on the floor and painted the walls for N800million,” he revealed.
Ize-Iyamu also lamented the refusal of the state government to disclose the cost of reconstructing the Airport Road in the state capital, which was not a new road at the time of its reconstruction.
“For Edo people to appreciate the gift you are giving them, you must tell them the cost. It is not enough to say ‘that is the road I did,’ that information can only be appreciated if you tell us the cost.
“Edo State government under Oshiomhole is very good in wealth consumption and know little or nothing about wealth creation. That is the tragedy of the government in Edo State,” the guber candidate added.
Ize-Iyamu, who said the APC is about promises and deceit, added that as a pastor, God is a witness that he would keep his covenant with Edo people contained in his ‘Simple Agenda’ if elected governor.
