Out-going governor of Plateau state, Jonah Jang, has denied allegations of massive looting currently going on in the state leveled against him by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Winner of the April 11 governorship election, Mr. Simon lalong has alleged that Governor Jang is emptying the state treasury and also carting away furniture from the new government house.
In a press statement made to newsmen yesterday and signed by Clinton Garuba, an Executive Assistant to the Governor, Jang described the allegation as ridiculous and advised Mr. Lalong to concentrate on smooth transition ahead of the May 29 handover.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a press statement issued by the media aide to the Governor-elect of Plateau State, Barrister Simon Lalong, in which some allegations were raised against the Governor of Plateau State, Dr. Jonah David Jang.
“In the said statement, it was alleged that the Governor in connivance with some of his appointees were embarking on a massive looting of the State treasury as well as converting Government property for personal use.”
“While the incoming administration should be concerned about modalities for a smooth transition, it is rather peddling rumours in order to malign the person of Governor Jang, who has done his best for the good of Plateau State.
“We want to point out that the same Plateau people who gave the mandate to the incoming administration graciously gave the Jang administration the opportunity to serve and this we have done to best of our abilities.”
The statement continues: “Now that Plateau people have decided that another person should be at the helm of affairs, we hold our heads high because we delivered on the mandate given to us by the Plateau people as evident in the numerous projects that dot the Plateau landscape.
“Our advice to the incoming administration is that it should concentrate on having a smooth transition process and going further to surpassing the Jang administration because the bar of leadership has been raised.
“Plateau people now know what it means to taste meaningful development and will not accept anything less.
“We on our part will remain a vibrant opposition anchored on x-raying the policies and programmes of the incoming government vis-a-vis what we have to offer.
“Ours is going to be an issue based opposition which will criticise the programmes of government not an attack on personalities who we may have fallen out with.
“We call on all peace loving people to therefore ignore rumours and fallacious statements being peddled either in the media or by word of mouth.
“The Jang administration is putting together a comprehensive hand over note with all its actions as contained in the Plateau State Strategic Development Plan; a document which is the guide for the development of the State.
“We call on the People of the state to support the incoming administration even as we approach the court to reclaim the stolen mandate of the Peoples Democratic Party, the statement further added.
