Jigawa state governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar said his newly administration inherited over N117 billion debt from the immediate past government of governor Sule Lamido.
The governor made the disclosure yesterday at the Aminu Kano Triangle state capital Dutse while delivering his inaugural speech shortly after taking oath of office.
He stated that “the liabilities left by the previous government are N117 billion contrary to what was in the transition note presented by the past government”.
Abubakar explained that “in considering with this month (May) state’s federation allocation, it would take the state seven years before it is able to settle the debts we inherited”.
According to him “this means that we will not be able to execute any project, it is only to pay workers salary in the next seven years”.
