Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, yesterday defied the early morning downpour to protest the non-payment of their salaries since January in Ogbomoso town.
The group led by the President, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, LAUTECH Chapter , Comrade Abiodun Lawal trooped to the streets with placards bearing various offensive inscriptions.
Comrade Lawal, while addressing their members, said that their agitation was to make the appropriate authorities know the sufferings inflicted on them by the non-payment of salaries.
He said that the protest was neither targeted at fighting government nor the management of the institution but to show their grievances and plead to concerned authorities on their yearning in due time.
“The future of our members is not guaranteed because they are not pensionable. The state government has not put in place any pension scheme for our members,” he said.
While speaking with journalists, one of the staff (name withheld) described their experiences as horrible.
Reacting to the protesters, Director of Administration, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Mr. Adewale Ajiferke said that the management was making efforts to arrest the situation.
