Edo State-born businessman, Dr Smart Erikowa, has described the Nigerian President as a man of honour and impeccable character, who has set the standard for the sustenance of the country’s corporate unity and identity.
Dr Erikowa, who made the remark at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja during a lecture and award programme organised by Merit Time International, said, by accepting the verdict of last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly polls, Jonathan has not only set a leadership standard, he has also saved Nigeria from chaos which would have dragged the country into anarchy and disintegration.
He specifically commended President Jonathan for cautioning all the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyalists against violence and accepting to provide a smooth programme of transition to the emerging administration, and advised Nigerians to sustain the tempo of peace being witnessed across the country while calling on the electorate to follow the same trend of peace during the April 11 governorship and state assembly polls.
“Leadership is not about sentiment; it is not about religion or ethnicity. President Jonathan has demonstrated leadership in the last four-five years and he has shown more of it this time around by taking the path of honour and congratulating General Buhari, which is rare and difficult to do under the circumstances. Nigerians have reaped from the great transformation going on in the country under Jonathan; let Buhari come and take it up from there,” Dr Erikowa said.
Delivering a lecture entitled: “The Nigeria of Our Dream”, the guest lecturer, Dr Okati Benedict admonished Nigerians on focused leadership as the bastion of democracy, emphasising zero-tolerance to corruption among the citizenry as the basis for growth, development and unity of Nigeria.
