United Progressive Party, UPP, has described President Goodluck Jonathan as a true statesman for accepting the outcome of the presidential poll in good faith.
In a press statement, the UPP national chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie expressed appreciation on Jonathan’s total commitment to the development of democracy in Nigeria.
Okorie commended the president for resisting temptation to interfere in the outcome of the election.
He said under Jonathan, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, enjoyed an unfettered independence and allocation of funds that enabled the commission to attain its success, adding that posterity and history would be kind to him.
“We wish to congratulate you and express our sincere appreciation for your unparalleled commitment to the development and deepening of democracy in Nigeria.
“You began to prove your mission in this direction from the commencement of your administration. We watched with admiration your single-mindedness in resisting all temptations to negatively interfere with the democratic process.
“Under your presidency, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, enjoyed an unfettered independence and allocation of funds which enabled the Commission to attain its present standard of delivering fairly credible elections comparable to no other in the recent history of the electoral body.
“History will be kind to you for this legacy that has saved Nigeria from a major cataclysm.
“Your prompt acceptance of the outcome of the 2015 Presidential Election set the stage for a peaceful post-election Nigeria in a manner and style that were unprecedented in statesmanship, maturity, nobility and grace,” Okorie stated.
