In tandem with the mood of the nation, former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday marked his 58th birthday with a very low-key party at his private residence in Abuja.
The former Nigerian leader’s birthday came at a time when despondency was pervasive everywhere in the country, following the slow pace of his successor and failure of the new government to hit the ground running.
Friends, associates and former aides had converged at Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s house to felicitate with him and same time congratulate him on his new status as the new global ambassador for free, fair and credible elections.
Guests at the event took time to laud Dr. Jonathan for his transformation agenda that culminated in Nigeria becoming the biggest economy in Africa on his watch.
One of the guests and chairman of DOM Communications limited, Prince Dennis Sami, commended the former President for his sacrifices which forestalled the predicted bloodbath in the country after the elections.
While describing Dr. Jonathan as the Icon of Democracy in the African continent, Prince Sami called on other African leaders to take a cue from the former Nigerian leader to deepen democracy in the continent.
The high point of the event was the cutting of the birthday cake with family and friends after Dr. Jonathan had been presented with huge customised birthday cards.
