Commander of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, Major General Alani Gafar Okunlola has warned those engaging in criminal activities in the Niger Delta to relocate from the region or get crushed.
He also promised to fish out pirates, kidnappers and other criminals operating in the region for prosecution.
The Base Commander, Navy Captain Luka Vonn Jehu, received the commander while inspecting facilities at the base, who gave the warning during his one-day operational visit to the Naval Forward Operation Base, Igbokoda, Ondo State.
He promised to provide necessary support for effective policing of the waterways and commended troops for their loyalty, while calling on them to key into the zero tolerance campaign against oil theft and illegal bunkering initiated and currently being executed by the Operation Pulo Shield, OPS.
In a related development, the Anti-Illegal Oil Bunkering Squad of Sector 1, OPS deployed at Adagbarasa Community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, arrested four pipeline vandals on October 31.
The suspects who gave their names as Tahiru Mohammed, Mohammed Ibrahim, Dan Asabe Lawal and Bashir Adamu were arrested in the act while breaking a pipeline.
Two trucks with registration numbers, Kaduna KAF 626 XA and Kaduna MKA 542 XA found at the scene were also impounded.
Both the suspects and trucks are currently still in custody of the OPS for preliminary investigation.
Troops also conducted patrol along Obangos Creek in Tibo community, Warri North LGA of Delta State and destroyed six illegal oil bunkering sites where oil thieves operate with about six tarpaulin tanks containing 50,000 litres each of substances suspected to be crude oil and locally refined automotive gas oil, AGO, seven cooking pots, 21 drums and hose measuring about 600 metres.
The sites and items discovered were destroyed in-situ. No arrest was made during the operation as the suspects fled on sighting the troops.
Also, Troops deployed at Otegele in Warri South West LGA of Delta State while on land patrol on November 3, discovered three active illegal distillery camps where oil thieves operate with 30 dug-out pits, seven surface tanks and four drums filled with stolen crude oil.
Other items discovered and destroyed include, five cooking pots, hose and two pumping machines.
Similarly, in Sector 2 axis of the operation, troops in conjunction with Southern Ijaw LGA Oil and Gas Task Force on October 29, destroyed in-situ, 14 illegal oil-bunkering sites along Benekruku, Peramabri and Igbomatoru waterways of Bayelsa State.
The sites were destroyed along with 49 drums, nine pits and 12 metal tanks filled with stolen crude and AGO.
No arrest was made as the perpetrators fled on sighting the troops. Efforts are on top gear to apprehend the fleeing criminals for prosecution.
The Maritime Component of Operation PULO SHIELD, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS DELTA) on November 5, carried out a raid in Kantu in Warri South West LGA of Delta State where oil thieves operated with 12 storage tanks and seven overhead tanks loaded with 20 metric tonnes of stolen crude oil.
Items discovered at the sites include national identity card belonging to Mr. Jimoh Dimini Success from Ese Odo local government area of Ondo State. Recovered items are in custody of the NNS DELTA for preliminary investigation.
