Following the release of the timetable for the conduct of the congresses and national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members of the PDP Rescue Group led by Ambassador Wilberforce Juta and Muktar Shagari have canvassed for support for the national chairman, Senator Modu Sheriff for the exercise.
The PDP Rescue Group led the opposition against the emergence of Modu Sheriff as the new leader of PDP.
Ambassador Juta was one of the candidates that recently vied for the chairmanship of PDP.
In a statement issued at the end of its meeting in Abuja, the group applauded PDP leaders, statutory organs and the National Executive Committee, NEC, for engaging in wide consultations before arriving at the dates for the congresses and convention.
According to the statement which was signed by Ambassador Juta and Mukhtari Shagari, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, “the Group notes with satisfaction the painstaking meetings and wide consultations that took place leading to the consideration and approval of the timetable for the congresses and national convention of the party as announced by the party’s National Executive Committee.
“The Group is of the view that this decision, if strictly implemented, will go a long way in resolving the current challenges facing the party. The Group therefore applauds the efforts of the National Caucus, the BOT and the NEC of our great party in arriving at the decision.
“We believe that, given the consultations made leading to the final decision, the PDP is now poised to reposition itself both as a foremost and effective opposition party and as a better alternative platform for true democratic governance in our country.”
They called on all party organs to be faithful to the decision, and to remain steadfast and resolute in its implementation.
PDP Rescue Group gave assurance that they will continue to guide party members and supporters in the implementation of the party’s constitution, guidelines and regulations in all party activities.
“The Group urges all party members and organs nationwide to be law abiding, remain faithful to the party and ensure disciplined, transparent and credible Congresses and National Convention. This, the group believes, is the panacea to the problems of our great party.
