Legendary Fuji musician, K1-de-Ultimate, has distanced himself from the shooting of a student that allegedly occurred in the university town of Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, where he performed in the early hours of Sunday, October 11.
It would be recalled that K1, who enjoys a massive followership, was in Ago-Iwoye on Saturday night for a concert at Limelite Hotel and Suites which was well-attended and successful.
However, it was later reported that a student was shot in the community on Sunday morning.
In a press statement released by K1’s publicist, Olasoju Adebayo, K1 stated that the concert at which he performed was peaceful and rancour-free, and to the best of his knowledge, no act of violence was recorded.
According to the statement, “My attention has been drawn to a story about a student purportedly shot at Ago Iwoye where my band was engaged to perform early Sunday morning. I wish to state that no such incident happened throughout the few hours we stayed in the community; at least to the best of my knowledge.
‘‘It should be noted that there was a good presence of security personnel, comprising of both police and soldiers at the venue which obviously reinforced the fact that there should be no act of thuggery or harassment at the event. Truly, the event was without rancour from about 3:30 am on Sunday morning till about 6:15 am when we stopped performance.
‘‘The event also had in attendance the paramount ruler of the community and a host of other distinguished dignitaries including lots of students. After the show, I spent some time taking pictures as requested by some students and my fans before we eventually left the town. I headed straight to my residence in Ijebu-Ode where I stayed for about seven hours before I finally returned to Lagos to catch a flight to London,” K1 stated.
He, however, expressed shock when the news of the shooting surfaced, “I was shocked thereafter when I started receiving calls from well meaning friends and family concerning a story in The Punch Newspaper this morning that I was wanted in connection with the shooting of a student at Ago Iwoye.
‘‘I will like to state categorically that I was not aware of such and neither was my band involved in any fracas that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.”
He concluded by urging the police to go into full investigation, “Finally, I want to implore the highest authority of the police to begin proper investigation into the matter to unravel the truth and nothing but the truth.”
It would be recalled that, shortly after the show in Ago iwoye, a female student of Business Education department, Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, Ago Iwoye, Kofoworola Azeez, was reportedly shot by one of the aides of the musician at the venue of the show.
The state police spokesman, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the police took the victim to the hospital.
Adejobi further said the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that the popular musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Anifowose, be invited for interrogation on the matter.
“We got the report of the incident and we have taken the victim to the hospital. The bullet has been removed from her body. Before the policemen got to the scene, the musician and his team had left the place. The commissioner has instructed that Kwam1 should be invited and he has been invited to tell the police how it all happened and who among his band members pulled the trigger.
“We are expecting him to come and give us an account of everything that happened, so as to assist us in our investigation. He is expected to come with his band boy that fired the gun,” Adejobi said.
