Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu will Thursday deliver the 45th convocation lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba announced this yesterday at a press briefing marking the week long activities of the convocation held at Enugu Campus of the university.
Kachikwu would be speaking on the convocation lecture titled, “the petroleum Industry and the Future of the Nigerian nation.” The lecture will take place in Princess Alexandra Auditorium, at the Nsukka Campus of the University.
Apart from the convocation lecture, the conferment of first degrees, diplomas and certificates would take place at Margaret Ekpo Convocation Arena, Nsukka on Friday, Prof Ozumba also announced.
He said that the conferment of postgraduate diplomas, higher degrees would equally take place at the same venue on Saturday, February 20.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the convocation will see to the award of 13,554 first degree and diploma certificates.
Breakdown of the award shows that 85 students made First Class; 3,040, second class upper division; 7,286, second class lower division; third class, 2,237; pass, 257; diploma, 176 while associateship certificate in education is 4.
At the grand finale of the convocation activities on Saturday, five distinguished Nigerians would be awarded honorary doctorate degrees.
The awardees are the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; former IG of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Commassie; Ambassador Godwin Alaoma Onyegbula and Prince Arthur Eze. They will bag doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration (honoris causa), while Hon. Justice Eze Ozobu would receive Doctor of Philosophy (honoris causa.)
