Management of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, KEDC, has turned the heat on criminals as it plans stiffer penalties against those that specialise in vandalising electrical infrastructure in its area franchise.
A press statement signed by the Company’s spokesperson, corporate communication department, Idris Muhammad, stated that it is taking the stiffer measures because the activities of the vandals are causing serious setbacks to the renewed determination of the company to provide steady and qualitative power supply to its customers.
“The menace of vandalism of distribution sub-stations has re-surfaced in Sabon Tasha business unit in Kaduna. The company was forced to shut down two distribution sub-stations in the last two weeks due to vandalism of some sensitive equipment in the sub-stations, with the latest happening yesterday night.”
He disclosed that the company should work closely with all law enforcement agencies with the view to bringing the perpetrators of the nefarious acts to justice.
Muhammad also appealed to electricity users to apprehend or report any suspicious movements around power supply facility.
“The fight against vandalism is the business of all stakeholders and the company and the customers must actively engage in the battle.
“Investigation revealed that items mostly removed by the vandals are armour cable, and transformer oil. There was also an instance where attempt was made to remove the whole transformer,” the statement reads.
